As I was driving and finding my way, I noticed that the left side of the picture says "Hawaiian Gardens." I wonder what makes the garden Hawaiian? Are there pineapples? I'd be pleasantly surprised if there were native Hawaiian plants there.
If I had time I totally would've driven there, next visit.

Just FYI... it's poke with an E, pernounced "poh-keh." There's no diacritical mark because that doesn't exist in the Hawaiian alphabet. Please please please don't just spell it any way you THINK is accurate.
Poke means to slice and that's why the fish is cut up into pieces. Kealoha and I were just talking about the article that addresses this much better than I ever could: http://firstwefeast.com/eat/2016/03/hawaii-chef-has-problems-with-poke-trend Now that I'm thinking about it though... I don't know why I didn't talk story with them and mention that the spelling was incorrect. Maybe I subconsciously thought it's just an item on the menu, is it a problem worth fixing? Mahalo nui to the church up the hill who had a pie sale & the Aunty who picked this up for us!5/24/2016 Don't know exactly what the material is, but doesn't it look like spaghetti? We couldn't help but play in it!
In the middle of this outdoor mall is a little patch of grass they call a park, where red blankets are provided and people actually return them. Never thought I would have a new perspective on parks from this trip #learninghappensallthetime #everywhere
People in Maine know how to make their pies! That key lime... it was gone by the time I had chance to try um! 😝
"You have to visit! It's a landmark!" The energy was amazing in this place, as soon
as I walked in I felt extremely happy (and I didn't even eat the ice cream yet). The presentation, the service and the taste - just the whole experience was sooo 'ono! When Misha's mama was a kid, she used to buy a scoop of ice cream here for 25 cents! I'm pretty sure it's the creamiest ice cream I've ever had. Good thing I came here on the last day, I think I would've went to this place every day. Mahalo nui to this beautiful city!
I came with a very short list of things to do and now have a plan for my next visit here. It was an amazing experience, one I will never forget. It wouldn't have been as awesome without my sister Misha and her family! Mahalo for letting me stay. Aunty Joan, Aunty Barbra, Chelsea and Sonny - mahalo for giving me advice, it was extremely helpful. On to LA to surprise my brother from another mama. Keep your fingers crossed that he has no idea that I'm coming, I wanna see him cry at Knott's Berry Farm. 😁😆😊❤️ #twinpeaks #fortpoint #surfingnexttime #marina #chrissyfields #hongkonglounge #giants #at&tpark #sfmoma #swanson's #yum #bikeeverywhere #goldengatebridge #angelisland #blue&goldfleetferry #uber #lyft #newfan #sutrobaths #landsend #hawaiigirlallovertheworld #connections |
